‘Harvey Elliott tipped for Liverpool return after Brighton move’

Harvey Elliott has been tipped to return to Anfield after leaving Liverpool, as Brighton work on a deal to land the midfielder.

The talented 22-year-old made just two Premier League starts for the Reds last term, demonstrating the fierce competition for places in Merseyside.

Meanwhile, Elliott was the hero as he notched a brace when England beat the Netherlands 2-1 in the Under-21 European Championship semi-final on Wednesday, 25 June.

The attacking midfielder’s exploits this summer have shown that he is worthy of enjoying regular game time in the Premier League next term.

Elliott tipped to return to Liverpool in two years

Following the England Under-21 star’s lack of game time under Arne Slot last term, former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Brighton are working on a deal for Elliott.

Meanwhile, speaking about the 22-year-old’s future live on Channel 4 [25 June], Joe Cole said: “Anyone outside the top six he comfortably walks in and plays, and becomes one of the main players and then I think once he has two years at that level, he can come back to the very top at a club like Liverpool and compete.

“He left Fulham as a young man. His learning has been spread out, very similar to (Phil) Foden, where he’s used sparingly over a long period of time.

“He hasn’t not played the games. He has played football, I still think there’s more to come from him.”

The Liverpool man began to enjoy more regular game time during Jurgen Klopp’s last season at Anfield, and reaped the rewards as he scored four goals and produced 11 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions.

But amid the presence of the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Elliott saw his playing opportunities drastically reduce under Slot last term, making just 28 outings across all competitions.

The former Fulham youngster has shown his worth for Liverpool over the years when called upon, and notably scored against eventual winners PSG in the Champions League last 16.

Unlike the Merseyside giants, Brighton should be able to hand Elliott regular game time, and he could frequently find himself on the scoresheet on the South Coast, especially after enjoying such a fruitful Under-21 Euros tournament.

Furthermore, Brighton’s strong interest in his services is a strong endorsement of his ability, as the Seagulls are well-renowned for their shrewd recruitment.
