Harvey Elliott: Liverpool will be a ‘superstar’ after what I’ve seen in person – pundit

Alan Hutton has tipped Harvey Elliott to become an “absolute superstar” for Liverpool after his “amazing” comeback from injury.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, was blown away by the 18-year-old in Sunday’s (6 February) 3-1 win over Cardiff City.

Elliott came off the bench against the Bluebirds to make his first appearance since early September.

The teenager has missed most of the season with a fracture-dislocation in his ankle.

He scored his first goal for Liverpool 18 minutes after coming on.

Hutton admitted Elliott looked like “he had never been away” despite such a serious injury.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “It’s amazing. Your first game back, scoring in front of the Kop. That is what dreams are made of.

“I always knew he was a brilliant talent when he came through at Fulham. Then he got bought but he had to bide his time, he is still very young.

“I watched him at the start of the season, I think it was against Burnley and I was at the game. He was unbelievable, he was unplayable.

“Him and Trent (Alexander-Arnold) linked up so well, they were really great together. Then, obviously, he picked up the injury.

“Youngsters have to go through this at certain stages of their career. It happens, it’s unfortunate, but it’s how you bounce back from it. He looked like he’d never been away.

“He has really knuckled down and worked hard to get back quick. Just the technique and ability to score that goal was up there with some of the best players in the league.

“It’s good to see him back. I’m pretty sure he will be an absolute superstar for them moving forward.”

Elliott has played 14 times for Liverpool’s first team to date.

He spent last season on loan at Championship side Blackburn Rovers.
