Harvey Elliott responds to Federico Chiesa’s message as Liverpool exits loom

Liverpool duo Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott were both restricted to bit-part roles in their Premier League title success.

Arne Slot has wasted no time in his bid to build on a massively successful debut season on Merseyside, which saw his Reds side win their 20th league title at a canter and finish 10 points clear of Arsenal.

Liverpool eased off for their last four games of the campaign after they wrapped up the title against Tottenham in April, and lost to Chelsea and Brighton alongside draws with Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

Jeremie Frimpong is already through the doors at Anfield as Slot’s new right-back just days after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s 20-year association with Liverpool ended, and further arrivals are also on the cards.

Chiesa reflects on Liverpool success with future in doubt

Slot’s squad and certainly his first-choice XI proved to be bulletproof more often than not in the Premier League, despite Liverpool’s only new signing making next to no impact in his first season with the Reds.

Chiesa only reached the threshold for a Premier League medal when his fifth appearance of the season came against Brighton in Liverpool’s penulimate match, and could be set for an immediate exit this summer.

The Italian posted on Instagram (3 June) with a wordless message for Liverpool fans as he reflected on his first campaign at Anfield, which featured a ‘pinched fingers’ emoji alongside a selection of photos.

Several Liverpool stars liked Chiesa’s post including skipper Virgil van Dijk, as well as the exit-linked pair of Luis Diaz and the similarly under-used Harvey Elliott.

Elliott and Chiesa transfers look inevitable at Liverpool

Liverpool have already broguht Frimpong through the doors and are keen to get their business done as quickly as possible, with Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Florian Wirtz close to a record-breaking transfer.

Numerous names are expected to head in the other direction this summer though, and a return to Italy may be on the cards for Chiesa if Liverpool elect to end his forgettable spell at Anfield ahead of schedule.

Elliott has attracted plenty of interest as he strives for more game-time, and although the midfielder has knocked back a move to Nottingham Forest, expect several other Premier League sides to enter the fray.
