‘He should’ve been sent off’ – Ex-refs chief blasts Man United vs West ham incident

Keith Hackett has sent a message to referee Andrew Kitchen following Manchester United’s draw with West Ham on Thursday.

Manchester United drew 1-1 with West Ham at Old Trafford, on what was ultimately a disappointing night for Ruben Amorim‘s men.

Diogo Dalot found the breakthrough for the home side in the second half, but Soungoutou Magassa would capitalise on chaos from a late corner to level the scores.

Hackett praised Kitchen for his refereeing of Manchester United’s draw with West Ham, with the inexperienced official keeping a calm head throughout an occasion that was, at times, fiery.

Kitchen got a few decisions wrong during the game at Old Trafford, however, which the former PGMOL chief was happy to pick out.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka lucky to avoid a second yellow card

Manchester United could have few complaints at the final whistle, with the Red Devils ultimately fortunate not to end up on the losing side.

Jarrod Bowen broke through in the final minutes and slid an inviting ball across the six-yard box, but no West Ham player had followed the winger.

Late chances would fall to Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes in stoppage time for Manchester United, with both players firing well over the bar.

Amorim’s side will feel like they should have been playing against 10 men for the final minutes; however, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka extremely fortunate not to be given his marching orders.

With the defender already on a yellow card, he came careering through the back of Patrick Dorgu, leaving the Dane in a heap on the pitch.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hackett said: “While I think Andrew Kitchen had a very good game, I would like him to review the two Wan-Bissaka challenges, particularly the second one.

“On a yellow card, he put in a reckless challenge that should have seen him have a second yellow, followed by a red. He’s a lucky guy. Andrew, you’ve got to keep focus right until the final whistle”

Manchester United need instant response

A trip to Wolves will be next up for Manchester United, with Amorim hoping to quickly usher his team back to winning ways.

Rob Edward‘s side have lost their last eight consecutive games across all competitions, and look destined for the drop already.

The Red Devils cannot afford complacency, however and will hope to avoid another falling foul to another upset.
