Sources: Heaton rejects new Aston Villa contract and verbally agrees to join Man United
Tom Heaton has rejected a new contract offer from Aston Villa and has verbally agreed to join Man United, Football Insider can reveal.
This site revealed on Thursday (13th May) that United are in talks to sign the goalkeeper, 35, after offering him a player-coach role.
A United source has told Football Insider that the framework of a deal is now in place and Heaton is set to move to Old Trafford this summer.
He has been lined up by United to become their third goalkeeper next season as back up to Dean Henderson and David de Gea.
The 20-times champions are luring Heaton with the offer of a dual role in which he would provide first-team keeping cover as well as help coach their roster of keepers.
It would see him be handed a more lucrative deal than the one he has been offered by Villa.
The Premier League giants have moved for Heaton as they look to seal replacement for Sergio Romero, who has been frozen out this season and is set to leave when his contract expires next month.
Lee Grant, 38, has been third choice for most of this season but he has not yet been offered a new contract.
Heaton is now set to leave Villa Park after just two years.
He joined Villa from Burnley for £8million in the summer of 2019 and made 20 appearances before suffering a knee injury midway through his first season.
In other news, it can be revealed two senior men are set to be offloaded by Aston Villa.
