‘He’s as close to Zidane as you’ll ever get’ – Rangers fans wowed by one player in particular

Rangers fans were in love with Connor Barron’s performance in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Kilmarnock.

Nico Raskin could be set to leave Rangers next month, but decision-makers at Ibrox may think twice after seeing how the Belgian performed when paired with Barron on Saturday.

The pair were excellent against Kilmarnock, with Raskin picking up an assist for Bojan Miovski‘s second goal.

Miovski was slammed after his performance against Falkirk last week, but the North Macedonia international scored a superb brace on Saturday.

Danny Rohl confirmed that Mikey Moore would return from injury against Kilmarnock, and the winger made an instant impact when he scored the third goal.

Rangers fans delighted with ‘unbelievable’ Connor Barron vs Kilmarnock

Rangers signed Barron from Aberdeen in 2024, making 46 appearances across all competitions in his debut season at Ibrox.

The midfielder is now in contention for Scotland, too, making his debut in June. Should he put in more performances like he did on Saturday, Steve Clarke may well be taking him to next year’s World Cup.

Barron was excellent on Saturday, creating a big chance and completing numerous defensive contributions.

He would end the game with more tackles than anyone else on the pitch, and was key to protecting Rangers‘ back-line.

Gers fans were delighted with the performance, with one writing that the 23-year-old was “unbelievable“.

Another said that Barron had “created the baseline for the entire team”, in a performance the fan described as “immense“.

There were comparisons to legends, too, with one Rangers fan comparing the midfielder to Italian legend Gennaro Gattuso, while another said: “Connor Barron is as close to [Zinedine] Zidane as you’ll ever get”.

Danny Rohl pleased by ‘fantastic reaction’ vs Kilmarnock

Rangers started well under Rohl, but have hit a blip in recent weeks. The Gers drew three consecutive games, and looked to be falling back into old habits.

Saturday’s win was a huge confidence booster, however, and will set up the German’s side well for upcoming games against Ferencvaros and Hibernian.

Speaking after the game, Rohl said: “This is a good step. We have to develop our game management, but tonight it was a fantastic reaction and now we have five wins in seven so this is a good step forward.

“We have to continue, everyone wants to win against us or take something from us. This is a tough league so we have to put the work in.”
