'He's played his last game for Leeds' - Exclusive: Whelan expects 21yo to leave United

Noel Whelan has claimed Leeds United will not hand Will Huffer a new contract at the end of this season and will instead look to sign an experienced goalkeeper.

The ex-Whites forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested Marcelo Bielsa would have to address the position in the transfer market if Leeds gained promotion to the Premier League this campaign.

Huffer, who is out of contract this summer, has injured his wrist and is expected to be out for months, not weeks casting his future at Elland Road in doubt.

The 21-year-old has fallen down the pecking at Elland Road and has not made a first-team appearance since the loan arrival of Illan Meslier.

Whelan believes a move away is best for the youngster especially if promotion is achieved.

“I think he has played his last game for Leeds,” he told Football Insider.

“It looks like we are going to sign Meslier, we have still got Kiko Casilla and I think we need another experienced goalkeeper behind us – that is a must if we are in the Premier League. Key positions need key players.

“It might be his last game. I think he need to work his trade somewhere else because he is not going to get time at Leeds United. He should progress his career somewhere else and free up some space for someone more experienced.”

As revealed by Football Insider, the Whites are eyeing up a potential move for Bournemouth number one Aaron Ramsdale this summer.

Huffer has two senior appearances for United to his name. Featuring once in the FA Cup and Championship in the 2018/19 campaign.

In other Leeds United news, Danny Mills has told Football Insider club should look to sign 26-year-old Scotland international this summer.
