‘How can you as a manager?’ – Pundit horrified by what Ruben Amorim did as Grimsby embarrassed Man United
Ruben Amorim’s bizarre behaviour capped off a diabolical defeat to Grimsby in the Carabao Cup for Man United.
The unthinkable happened last night (27 August) as Man United crashed out of the Carabao Cup to League Two side Grimsby on penalties.
The goalkeeper position continues to be a troublesome one for the Red Devils as Man United fans called for Andre Onana’s contract to be terminated following another dismal display in net.
Pressure continues to mount on the board to sack Ruben Amorim at Man United especially after his peculiar antics during the penalty shootout as Bryan Mbeumo missed the decisive final spot-kick.

Speaking on talkSPORT (28 August) the day after the calamitous performance against Grimsby, former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor went in on the red half of Manchester and the questionable body language of the Portuguese manager.
The ex-Villain slammed the club, saying: “When you say Manchester United now, you think embarrassing.
“Bunch of bluffers. Not a team, no leaders. What summed up Manchester United was their manager looking away and not watching the penalty shootout.
“How can you as a manager? I get it when you’re in a FA Cup final or a Champions League knockout game and it’s the last penalty and managers look away, for the whole penalty shootout he looks away.
“That team is a shambles and it doesn’t matter who they sign.”
Grimsby were praised for their display against the Red Devils, but the pundit was critical of the visitors’ resolve, stating: “Because they [Grimsby] know they’re soft.
“It doesn’t matter that the name is Manchester United and their manager said it yesterday before the game.
“But Manchester United are soft from back to front. management, coaching staff, goalkeeper [Onana] can’t catch the ball.”

I think we are all running out of words to describe the absolutely dreadful demise of the Red Devils at the moment.
Indeed, this is all part of a huge rebuild, but it feels like a project that has been ongoing since the exit of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Poor transfer negotiation skills, overpaying for mediocre players, a culture that saps every ounce of optimism and positivity from the players, it makes for pretty grim reading.

When Amorim took over last year, he certainly was not expecting to have to deal with such a worrying situation, especially considering his breeze of a role in Portugal with Sporting CP.
Old Trafford has become a graveyard for managers and players with any speck of potential, which should definitely put off any players considering a move to Manchester.
Whether the Portuguese manager stays long enough to see out the rebuild is another discussion in itself, but right now the omens are not looking good for him.
