How Joshua Zirkzee could be tempted to stay at Man United in January

Joshua Zirkzee may have changed his mind about leaving Man United due to the voids set to be left by Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo when they head off to AFCON.

Following the closure of the summer transfer window, sources told Football Insider that Zirkzee was unhappy at Man United after a prospective move away was blocked.

The Dutchman had fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, leading many to believe the forward was destined for an exit in the upcoming transfer window.

Among the names interested in Zirkzee in January are Everton who are in desperate need of a new striker, given their goalscoring woes this season.

Crystal Palace performance could signal the start of regular minutes at Man United for Zirkzee

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Ruben Amorim has seemingly backtracked on his stance on the number 11 after he netted in a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on 30 November.

Sources told Football Insider that West Ham are intrigued by a move for Zirkzee in January, adding to the growing list of suitors, it now seems the frontman will be staying at Old Trafford.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “He’s boosted his chances of getting more game time at United, obviously with that goal against Palace [30 November], really good finish in that game, got United back into the game and helped them go on and pick up the three points in that one.

“He’ll be hoping now he can get a run in the side. That’s what he’s been looking for this season.

“He hasn’t had it because obviously United has been out and spent big on Mbeumo, Cunha, Sesko in the summer window.

“So, he was pushed down the pecking order, but I think he’s going to be needed at United for the foreseeable next couple of months at least anyway, especially with Mbeumo and Amad going away to AFCON with Cameroon and Ivory Coast.

“United are a bit short of attacking options so I think he will get minutes whilst those two are away at that tournament.”

Man United enter race to sign Tino Livramento

Whilst the Red Devils continue to ponder over who shall remain at Old Trafford, they will also be looking to strengthen their side in the upcoming transfer windows.

Former Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Arsenal and Man United have joined Man City in the race to sign Tino Livramento.

The Englishman has been a revelation since he joined Newcastle back in August 2023, quickly becoming one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Brown stated that the Cityzens are still the front-runners for the full-back’s signature, yet Amorim may push hard to get the mobile defender he has long been after.
