How much money Rangers have lost out on after Europa League failure revealed

Rangers’ elimination in the Europa League’s league stage is set to have cost the Old Firm club over £20million.

Despite Danny Rohl’s achievements since arriving at Ibrox, he was unable to fix their European form, with the Gers finishing 32nd out of 36 sides in the league stage.

Now, according to Scottish Football.info on 11 February, this has seen Rangers miss out on millions of pounds in prize money.

Progression in the knockout stages of the tournament offers over £20m in prize money if Rohl’s side were to win it.

However, even a quarter-final appearance could have seen Rangers collect an extra £3.7m, which could have been a massive boost for the club.

How much have Rangers earned in European prize money so far?

To date, Rangers have brought in just over £15m in prize money for their participation in the Champions League qualifiers and the Europa League’s league stage.

£3.74m came from the qualifiers, while £3.75m was awarded as a starting fee.

An additional £840,000 was awarded thanks to Value Pillar European and their Value Pillar Non-European.

Finally, an extra £350,000 was given to Rangers for their final position in the Europa League’s league table.

Rangers continue to be left behind Celtic in European finances

Obviously, Celtic’s progression in the Europa League means that the Hoops could bank a significant sum of money between now and the end of the season in the competition.

This comes just one season after Celtic were paid £39.18m for UEFA for their participation in the Champions League.

While the Hoops have struggled this season, if they continue to bring into additional funds, they could easily end up surpassing Rangers comfortably once more.

Therefore, getting into the Champions League’s league phase has to be one of Rohl’s biggest priorities next season if they manage to finish in the top two.

The potential funds would not only help finance future transfers, but could help them keep in touch, or even surpass Celtic’s incomings in the near future, especially if the Hoops finish third or lower this season.

However, for now, Rohl’s priority has to be at least finishing in the top two in the Scottish Premiership, with a potential title on the line.
