Huge boost for Celtic as Brendan Rodgers confirms that mainstay is fit for clash v Rangers

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Scotland’s player of the year Scott Sinclair is fit to play in the upcoming Old Firm derby against Rangers on Saturday.

The winger didn’t play against Dundee in the 2-0 Boxing Day victory but the Hoops manager has disclosed that was just a precautionary measure.

“He should be fine,” Rodgers told Celtic TV, as quoted by the Evening Times.

“He took a whack on his ankle and his knee against Aberdeen…he was receiving treatment but he will be ok for the weekend.”

The return of Sinclair is a timely boost for the Hoops particularly after his replacement against Dundee, Jonny Hayes was ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken leg.

Sinclair hasn’t hit the heights he displayed during last season but he has still scored 15 goals for the Hoops so far this season.

The 28-year-old also has a good record against Rangers, having scored four goals against them last season, as he has become mainstay in the team under Brendan Rodgers.

The Hoops go into the match eleven points ahead of their old rivals after both sides were victorious in their latest league matches, Celtic defeating Dundee 2-0 and Rangers beating Motherwell by the same scoreline.

The first Old Firm derby of the season ended in a comfortable 2-0 win for the Bhoys at Ibrox in September, thanks to goals from Tom Rogic and Leigh Griffiths, nether of whom seem likely candidates to start on Saturday, as Rogic is injured and Griffiths will likely be replaced by Moussa Dembele.
