‘Huge’ – Exclusive: Phillips raves as QSI pave way for Leeds double deal
Kevin Phillips claimed having ties with Paris Saint-Germain is “fantastic” for Leeds United amid the Qatar Sports Investment group’s interest in acquiring a stake in the club.
However, the former England international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted any player’s that are loaned must improve the squad, citing Ian Poveda as an example.
According to 90 mins, PSG are considering loaning Adil Aouchiche and Tanguy Kouassi to the Whites next season to try and offer both some first-team football.
PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi, also chairman of QSI, has been in talks with United owner Andrea Radrizzani about purchasing a stake at Elland Road for some time.
Phillips suggested a relationship only stands to benefit Leeds with the Ligue 1 side’s wealth of talent.
“If they can get a couple of young players on loan and they come and do a job it is a huge bonus,” he told Football Insider.
“PSG are only going to recruit top-class players. The money they have got there and the success they have got in France. Having ties with them is fantastic.
“However, for young lads to come out of that French league to step into the Premier League would be tough.
“The lad who came from Manchester City has hardly kicked a ball yet. So it is all well and good having these links but they need to make your squad better.
“But obviously it is good to have links with both of those squads.”
United appear to have already established a solid connection with Manchester City thanks to Marcelo Bielsa’s friendship with Pep Guardiola.
Jack Harrison currently on loan from the Premier League giants whilst Ian Poveda signed on a permanent deal in January.
