‘Huge’ Rangers development will cost them the title – ‘I’m worried for them’, says pundit
Rangers’ run in the Europa League is “brilliant” for the club but it could cost them the Scottish Premiership title.
That’s according to former Celtic hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the club’s end of season run-in.
Rangers will face Braga in the Europa League quarter-finals, adding two more games to their busy end of season schedule.
Assuming the Gers go through, they will face at least two more games in Europe, taking their number of remaining games this season to 10.
This will rise to 11 if they beat Celtic on 17 April to make the Scottish Cup final and 12 if they make the Europa League final.
Celtic will only play a maximum of nine games before the end of the season, McAvennie claims this puts the Gers at a disadvantage.
“This Rangers run is brilliant, huge, I’ll hold my hands up,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“That Braga draw was maybe the easiest draw out there though there are no easy games at that level.
“I just wonder how they are going to cope with it. They have a big squad but is there enough quality there to do well in Europe and win the games they need to in the league?
“I’m not sure, it’s a big ask. I can see them getting through in Europe but that will take a lot out of their squad.
“Then they have big games against Celtic and the split is always tough. I’m worried for them.”

Rangers face Celtic in their next league outing on Sunday (3 April).
Each side has one Old Firm win to their name this season.
