Hugo Lloris facing axe from Tottenham XI as replacement lined up – expert
Hugo Lloris could be axed from the Tottenham starting lineup when the season resumes.
That’s according to former Spurs defender Alan Hutton speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the club’s goalkeeper dilemma.
According to Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge, speaking to Football Fancast (26 November), the Lilywhites are looking at Leeds United shot stopper Illan Meslier as the 35-year-old’s successor.
The Spurs captain will have a year left on his Tottenham contract at the end of the season and the London club are looking for a long-term replacement.
The 2022-23 season is believed to be the last season Lloris will be the number one choice between the sticks but it won’t be until the summer that they bring in his successor.
But Hutton is not convinced Meslier is the best choice for Antonio Conte’s side.
“I think if they bring someone like that in they want to push Lloris all the way,” he told Football Insider.
“I think it is still up for debate moving forward if Lloris is going to be the number one or not. I think he needs proper competition to push him.

“Meslier is a good keeper, he is very young so he has lots of time on his side. Is he going to take them to the next level? I am not so sure.
“I can’t imagine Leeds will want to let him go. But I do think it is a position that Antonio Conte will want to strengthen moving forward.“
