Hugo Lloris victim of major injustice amid behind-the-scenes Tottenham reveal – expert
Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was fouled moments before Newcastle United’s opening goal on Sunday.
That is the view of former White Hart Lane number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the controversial incident in the first half of the 2-1 loss for Spurs.
As shown on Sky Sports (23 October), Callum Wilson opened the scoring for the Magpies at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Antonio Conte’s side were incensed by Wilson’s challenge on Lloris in the build-up to the goal.
The goal was awarded by referee Jarred Gillett and despite a lengthy review, VAR official Stuart Attwell concurred with his colleague.
According to Football.London‘s Alasdair Gold (24 October), the coaching staff were left bemused and angered by the decision after the game.
When asked by Football Insider if Wilson’s goal should have been disallowed by the officials, Robinson said: “It is a definite foul, 100 per cent.
“Lloris went down like a sack of spuds but there was contact. He made a lot of it and he should have been stronger but it was a foul.
“Wilson brought him down after he chested it round him. If that was the other way round it would have been a foul. It was soft but it was a foul.

“If Wilson stood there with his arms by his side, fair enough. But he puts his arm out. Wilson knows what he is doing. He is clever.
“We can sit and argue about it all day long but the referee quite simply got it wrong. It should have been a free-kick to Tottenham.”
