Hull City agree to sign Leeds favourite Liam Cooper – sources
Liam Cooper has agreed to re-sign for Hull City following his Leeds United exit, sources have told Football Insider.
The 32-year-old was in owner Ali Acun Ilicali’s box at the MKM Stadium for Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Millwall.
Cooper left Leeds at the end of June following the expiration of his contract at Elland Road.
Tim Walter is in the market for a new centre-back as he looks to bolster his defensive options after replacing Liam Rosenior in the Hull dugout.
Liam Cooper set to make Hull City move after Leeds United exit
Cooper started his career with Hull after coming through the ranks with the Yorkshire side before being promoted to their first team in 2008.
But he saw his opportunities limited for his boyhood club, having made just 17 senior appearances at the MKM Stadium.
The Scotland international joined Chesterfield in 2013 before Leeds snapped him up just a year later following his impressive spell in Derbyshire.
The Hull-born defender went on to make 284 appearances during his 10-year stint at Elland Road, where he captained the club for several years.
Cooper was an integral part of the Leeds squad that won promotion to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa before they were relegated in 2023.
The centre-back saw his minutes drastically reduced last season following the arrival of Daniel Farke, having made just 19 appearances across the campaign.

After leaving Leeds following the expiration of his contract in June, Cooper has now agreed to re-join Hull more than a decade after leaving the club.
Walter’s side have had a slow start to the season, having drawn all three of their Championship games and suffered defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
