‘Humiliating’ – Chris Sutton delivers damning verdict on manager impact on Rangers
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes that Rangers will be in for a “long afternoon” at Parkhead on Sunday if Brendan Rodgers’ side are motivated to go out and win the Scottish Premiership in style.
The Hoops smashed the Gers 4-0 in the Scottish Cup semi-final earlier this season as they continue to assert their dominance over their bitter local rivals.
Sutton, speaking on BT Sport’s live pre-match coverage of Aberdeen’s clash with Hearts on Friday night, believes that Celtic manager Rodgers has had a massive impact on Rangers since he arrived in Glasgow to help the Bhoys continue to stay well clear at the pinnacle of Scottish football.
“It’s been humiliating [for Rangers] since Rodgers has been in charge,” said Sutton.
He added: “I don’t know how motivated the Celtic players will be. It’s about whether Celtic players turn up and if they do, it could be a long afternoon for Rangers.”
Football Insider verdict
It’s no surprise that Rodgers is being linked with replacing Arsene Wenger at Arsenal because he has done an immense job at Celtic Park. The Hoops have stayed so far ahead of Rangers because of him, but it has not exactly been humiliating for Rangers. It’s easy to forget that this is a team who is yet to spend two entire season in the top-flight – there is still a long way to go in the rebuilding project at Ibrox. Hopefully Steven Gerrard is able to close the gap down a lot more than those before him have, otherwise next year could be another long one for the fans.
In other Rangers news, Gerrard’s possible first starting line-up for the Gers next season includes two Liverpool players, one of which has seven goals in 12 games this term.
