Hutton backs Rangers player to ‘shine’ after Tom Lawrence injury update via Sky
Alan Hutton has claimed losing Tom Lawrence to injury will be a “blow” for Rangers.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said it provides an opportunity for other players to “shine”.
Lawrence was left out of the squad to face Celtic on Saturday (3 September) after picking up an injury.
As quoted by the Sky Sports (2 September), Giovanni van Bronckhorst said the midfielder will be out until after the international break that ends on 27 September.
He suffered a knee injury in the 4-0 win over Ross County on 27 August.
The 28-year-old will miss the Bears’ Champions League group stage opener against Ajax on Wednesday (7 September).
Hutton said Lawrence’s absence could open the door for other players to step up and prove themselves to the manager.
“Of course it will be a blow,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s started his career at Rangers really well and he’s now a main part of that team so to have him out for any sustained period of time is going to be difficult.
“But, when that happens it brings an opportunity for other players to come out and show what they’ve got and shine and it’s up to them now to take on that role and push forward.“

Lawrence has made nine appearances for Rangers so far this season across all competitions.
During those outings he has scored three goals and provided two assists.
In other news, Alan Hutton has claimed Jon McLaughlin could be axed from Rangers XI after ‘huge’ development.
