Hutton ‘delighted’ after ‘big’ Charlie McCann development at Rangers

Alan Hutton is “delighted” after Rangers youngster Charlie McCann made his full league debut for the club.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers and Scotland defender said “the biggest thing” was that the 20-year-old was favoured over summer signings.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst handed McCann his first league start against Dundee United on 17 September.

The centre-midfielder played the whole 90 minutes of the 2-1 win at Ibrox.

Speaking to club media (17 September), Van Bronckhorst heaped praise on the Northern Ireland international who is “developing really well.”

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on McCann’s performance and prospects at Ibrox, Hutton said:

“I would not say it was a shock because he has been knocking on the door.

“He brings quality in the attacking third. He has good vision and he sees a pass. Not only that, he runs forward with the ball.

“In recent games Rangers have been missing a bit of that. Everyone has been a little bit static.

“The biggest thing for me was the Napoli game where none of the summer signings are playing. McCann is getting his chance ahead of them.

“McCann did himself justice. He did himself no harm moving forwards.

“I am delighted the pathway is there for young players to come through to the first team. I am sure the fans are as well.”

In other news, an expert has claimed Jon McLaughlin is set for an extended spell on the sidelines as new details emerge at Rangers.
