Hutton: Everybody at Rangers I speak to is ‘raving’ about Gerrard’s secret weapon Beale

Alan Hutton has claimed coach Michael Beale has been a secret weapon for Rangers in their march to the Premiership title

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Ger revealed everybody he knows at Ibrox “raves” over the first-team coach’s tactical nous.

Beale, 40, arrived at Rangers alongside Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister but is not as publicly prominent as the managerial duo.

He worked as a youth coach at Chelsea under the likes of Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink before moving to Liverpool.

He spent time as an assistant manager at Sao Paulo before returning to Anfield to work alongside Gerrard in the academy.

Now at Ibrox, Hutton insisted Beale had made a big impact behind the scenes.

“The coaches have a good relationship between each other,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“They can bounce ideas off each other. Michael Beale’s in there, he’s a tactician. He knows everything about the game. Everybody I speak to raves about him. If you listen to his podcasts and stuff, really knows the game inside and out. He’s tactically aware.

“I think these are the guys you need, even though you’ve played football your whole life. There’s one thing playing it and another knowing the formations and how to counteract certain things.

“There have been situations going through the league where Rangers have had a little tactical change or change in formation because they’re trying to counteract the other team.

“That’s all down to the likes of Michael Beale. He knows exactly what he’s talking about. For people to really understand what he’s all about, you just have to listen to his podcast that he does. He really breaks everything down. He breaks the game down.

“I think he’s a key part of what Rangers are at the moment. He deserves a lot of credit in what Rangers have done.”
