Hutton excited by latest on Rangers ‘rule-breaker’ Aribo

Alan Hutton has tipped Joe Aribo to ignite for Rangers in the coming weeks after a slow start to the season.

The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he was thrilled with what Steven Gerrard had to say about the 25-year-old last week.

Speaking to Rangers TV (22nd August), Gerrard revealed Aribo had been “frustrated” with his early-season form before scoring a stunning goal against Ross County.

He claimed the strike against County reflected the midfielder’s ability of “driving up to people and being aggressive, breaking the rules”.

Hutton admitted it has been a “slow burner” for Aribo so far this season.

However, he tipped the Nigeria international to ignite after his “outstanding” goal.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He’s that type of player who slows play down and then speeds it up.

“He can take people on, technically he is very gifted. His goal against Ross County was outstanding.

“These are the levels he’s set himself. The bar is that high that he needs to consistently get there, which is always the difficult bit. He’s definitely got the ability to do that.

“I liked how Gerrard worded it. These rule-breakers, these mavericks that he’s allowing to go and be free, to express themselves.

“He wants Joe Aribo to be that guy, to go and make things happen in the final third. We’re starting to see it now.

“It’s kind of been a slow burner in terms of Rangers this season. We’re starting to see signs of the form that they produced last season.”

Aribo has already played eight times across all competitions for Rangers this season.

He scored eight times and contributed seven assists in 42 games last term.
