Hutton: I’m sure Goldson is telling fibs at Rangers after agent reveal

Alan Hutton has suggested Connor Goldson may not be telling the whole truth after discussing his contract situation at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender and Rangers TV insisted the 28-year-old would be well aware of where negotiations are at, despite comments to the contrary.

Speaking to Sky Sports last week (20th October), Goldson revealed he had not spoken to his agent or the club recently about a potential new contract.

His current terms expire next summer, meaning Rangers could lose him on a free transfer.

Goldson confirmed back in August talks were ongoing over a new deal.

Hutton suggested the defender would be in contact with his agent and talks would be taking place behind closed doors.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I’m sure he has spoken to his agent a lot, if I’m honest.

“One of those ones where you say you’ve not spoken to anybody by you’ve actually spoken to them every day.

“There’ll be discussions going on in the background, I’m pretty sure. Connor Goldson with his agent and his agent with the club.

“Whatever the holdup is, I don’t know. We’re obviously not privy to what’s going on but it seems like there has been a contract offer.

“Maybe one of the parties isn’t happy with that and they’re toing and froing until they meet in the middle.

“Hopefully they can get it sorted. I do think that you can’t play your best football when things like this are hanging over your head.

“You want to put that to bed and then concentrate. Hopefully, that can happen in the next couple of weeks.”
