Hutton impressed by ‘massive Celtic signing’ after Cameron Carter-Vickers deal agreed

Celtic fans’ frustrations over their slow January window are understandable despite Cameron Carter-Vickers penning a new long-term deal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton claimed tying the centre-back down on a new five-and-a-half-year deal was “massive” for the club.

However, much of the Parkhead faithful have been disappointed with the lack of transfer activity from this month.

The Hoops have made just one permanent signing this month, Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna, but as revealed by Football Insider (31 January), they have now reached a full agreement to sign Norwich City striker Adam Idah.

Meanwhile, arch-rivals Rangers have snapped up quality additions including Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves and Mohamed Diomande and are expected to complete further deals before the close of the window.

Hutton admitted he understood the fans’ frustrations, but claimed a lot has changed at Celtic Park since Brendan Rodgers returned.

“It’s an interesting one, but I think moving on from Ange Postecoglou and everything he brought to the team was always going to be really difficult,” he told Football Insider.

“The excitement that surrounded it, the way they played – it was just all-out attack.

“Things have changed. Brendan Rodgers is a different manager and he plays a different way.

“I understand why the fans are frustrated as Celtic are good enough to tear through any team, but their recruitment hasn’t been very active this month.

Celtic star Cameron Carter-Vickers in action

“It was massive signing Cameron Carter-Vickers on a long-term deal, it was probably their best bit of business this month.

“But Celtic have been slower than what fans would like, but that’s how football is.”
