Hutton issues ‘big’ Tom Lawrence verdict after Rangers injury update

Alan Hutton has claimed Tom Lawrence was a “big miss” for Rangers in their game against Celtic on Saturday (3 September).

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back conceded Lawrence’s absence was only part of the problem for the Ibrox club.

The 28-year-old has impressed in his four league games for the Light Blues this season.

As quoted by the Daily Record (2 September), Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed the winger will be out for “a few weeks”.

The former Wales international was left out of the game on Saturday after picking up a knee injury against Ross County last weekend (27 August).

The Gers were beaten 4-0 by their Glasgow rivals in the Old Firm clash.

They are now five points behind Celtic in the Premiership table.

When asked if missing Lawrence was part of the reason Rangers struggled against the Celts, Hutton told Football Insider: “It was definitely part of it.

He’s been really good since he’s come in to the football club so he was obviously a big miss.

Celtic

I think overall the Rangers performance was really poor, it was for all to see. We knew how Celtic were going to come out and play, they played the same way for the full season under Ange [Postecoglou] so there was no surprise there.

I think, in general, as a team they were poor, not just because they were missing Tom Lawrence who is obviously a great player as well.
