Hutton issues ‘massive’ Rangers claim after what he spotted against Celtic

Alan Hutton has claimed the nine point gap to Celtic is still a “massive” issue for Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said there were a lot of positives for Michael Beale’s players to take from the 2-2 draw on Monday (2 January).

The Light Blues were 2-1 up for the majority of the second half until Kyogo Furuhashi scored a late equaliser.

As quoted by the Daily Record (2 January), the Gers boss said the title is now “Celtic’s to throw away” but was pleased to see several of his players “waking up”.

The gap to their Glasgow rivals remains at nine points after the derby as Rangers face Dundee United next.

When asked if the players can feel hard done by given the final score, Hutton told Football Insider:I think if you look at the whole thing, the amount of clear cut chances that they had, they probably should have been out of sight.

When Celtic scored the first goal Rangers looked a little bit unsettled for a good bit of time after that. It was not until about 30 minutes that they settled down. I think they can take a lot out of it.

They went up against arguably the best team in the league and probably should have won. It will give them confidence moving forward but the nine point gap is still massive.

I think it was huge for Rangers to go out and win that whereas Celtic would have been happy with the draw.”
