Hutton makes ‘nightmare’ Rangers claim as Celtic handed significant boost by SPFL
Alan Hutton has claimed the postponement of fixtures will benefit Celtic significantly more than Rangers heading into the new year.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou would be thrilled the SPFL have effectively brought the winter break forward for Premiership clubs.
In a statement released last week (22 December), the SPFL confirmed games scheduled for 29 December and 2/3 January have been postponed until mid-January and early Feburary respectively.

That includes Rangers’ visit to Celtic, which is now scheduled for Wednesday, 2nd February.
Hutton suggested the Bhoys would be the happier of the two Glasgow giants with the news.
“For the winter break to come around now, it is difficult for Rangers, especially that Celtic game,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“Celtic have had a lot of injuries, no fans in the stadium, so it really suits them for this game to be postponed. For Rangers, it’s a bit of a nightmare.
“I think Ange Postecoglou will be really happy with the break. We’ve seen the likes of Kyogo, they patched him up for the cup final and then he gets injured again.
“The opportunity of a couple of weeks rest, get some of these main players back. If you just go back to the St Mirren game, Hart was missing,, Jota Turnbull. These guys are big-name players for them.
“It’s a great opportunity to get people off the treatment table. Get rid of these Covid issues and move forward.”

Rangers currently sit six points clear of Celtic at the top of the Premiership table.
The Gers have won their last nine league games, keeping a clean sheet in the last six.
