Hutton ‘shocked’ by what he’s just seen Celtic do with Kyogo Furuhashi

Celtic could opt to stick with the new formation seen in their Scottish Cup victory against St Mirren on Sunday (11 February).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton admitted he was “shocked” to see Brendan Rodgers switch up the Hoops tactics, which saw Adam Idah lead the line with Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Luis Palma all playing deeper.

Celtic progressed to the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Furuhashi and Maeda with a formation which differed from their typical 4-3-3.

January signing Idah bagged a brace in the Hoops’ previous clash, their 2-1 league win against Hibernian, and was kept in the starting line-up.

Could Celtic fans see a new-look formation following the arrival of Adam Idah?

Hutton admitted Rodgers’ tactics “definitely worked” against the Buddies and was impressed with Celtic’s versatility.

“I looked at Rodgers’ formation and was shocked that they’d changed their formation,” he told Football Insider.

“But we saw Idah scoring those two goals against Hibernian in the previous game, so you don’t want to leave him out when he’s on fire.

“Then they had Kyogo in behind and the pace of Palma and Maeda on either side of him – it definitely worked.

“It’s something that Rodgers can look at moving forward, it could be exciting.

“If they do stick with that, then time will tell.

“Idah has come in and taken his opportunity – can he continue scoring the goals that are needed for him to stay in the team?

“It’s good from a Celtic point of view that they can be versatile and can change it up.”
