Hutton tells Hagi to snub offers and stay at Rangers as replacement lined up

Alan Hutton has tipped Steven Gerrard to hold talks with Ianis Hagi about his Rangers future amid transfer links.

The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Ibrox boss would use his “great” man-management skills to reassure the 22-year-old of his place in the squad.

As revealed by Football Insider, Rangers are fearful Hagi could leave this summer and are plotting a move for Santiago Moreno as a potential replacement.

Ibrox chiefs value Hagi at £6million-plus ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

The attacking midfielder has been linked with moves to Lazio and Sevilla (Glasgow Evening Times) while Romanian outlet Sport.ro claim VFL Bochum have held talks over a deal.

However, Hutton has suggested Gerrard will sit down with the young talent and reassure him of his future at Ibrox.

Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “I think he has done really well this season. He can make things happen, see a pass, score a goal. I totally understand why people will be looking at him.

“It really comes down to does he think he’s going to be a regular fixture for Steven Gerrard moving forward. He did find himself coming in for certain games and then back out which can be difficult for a player.

Steven Gerrard, I think he’ll be great at man-management. He has only just stepped out of the game so he understands that side of it better than most. The situation where he left Liverpool, he understands what players go through.

“Hagi’s very young, sometimes you forget. Even I forgot how young he actually is, he’s got so much ahead of him. Sometimes it’s just about sitting back and putting an arm around him.

“Tell him: ‘We want you here. You’re going to play games, you’re an important player for us and take your time.’  There’s no need to rush it. He’s obviously got a contract at Rangers still and he’s a big player.

“I would like to see him stay, I think he makes the squad stronger. He’s got plenty of time on his hands so there’s no need to rush and try force a move.”

Hagi started 23 times in 32 league appearances for the Light Blues this season.

He played a total of 45 times across all competitions, with eight goals and 15 assists under his belt.
