Hutton: This may be real reason Tottenham haven’t sealed deal for Djed Spence

Alan Hutton is adamant Tottenham will “get a deal done” to secure the signature of Djed Spence this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs defender suggested Daniel Levy’s “shrewd” negotiating is holding up the transfer.

According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas (5 July), talks between Spurs and Middlesbrough have been at the advanced stage since last week but there is still no formal agreement over the 21-year-old.

The right-back has two years left on his contract at the Riverside.

This site revealed (29 June) that Tottenham were £1million short of the asking price.

When asked if he thought Tottenham were being silly to argue over such small amounts, Hutton told Football Insider: “That’s Daniel Levy for you.

“It’s just the way he is. Obviously the likes of Djed Spence, it’s not just him, you go through the history books and Daniel Levy’s been the same. He’s a shrewd operator, he’s always been that way.

He wants the best deal for the football club, that’s why it always makes money. He’ll make sure he gets the best deal.

Tottenham, Daniel Levy

It will get done, I’m pretty sure of it. I think he’s a great player who’s definitely going to add to the squad so he’ll want to get it done as soon as possible and so will [Antonio] Conte.

But it’s Daniel Levy for you, he’s been doing it since I’ve been there and before I would’ve thought so it’s never going to change.”
