Hutton warns of Tottenham fan 'frenzy' amid source's Nuno talks update today
Alan Hutton has warned Tottenham could face a backlash from supporters if Nuno Espirito Santo is appointed manager.
The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed supporters had established lofty expectations after links to several “massive, elite managers”.
As exclusively revealed by Football Insider on June 23rd, Tottenham have lined up talks with Nuno after previously ruling the 47-year-old out of the running.
As detailed on Thursday (June 24th), newly-appointed managing director Fabio Paratici is the driving force behind the pursuit and the latest from a club source today is that negotations are taking place in the next 24 hours.
Spurs’ interest comes after talks with the likes of Antonio Conte and Paulo Fonseca collapsed in recent weeks.
Hutton claimed the high-profile links mean supporters now have incredibly high expectations.

As such, he suggested Nuno would come under immediate fire in north London.
“The fans have been sucked in by all these massive, elite managers,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“Then we start talking about Nuno or Graham Potter. It’s no disrespect to these guys at all. Where they’ve been, they have done excellent jobs.
“But you’ve worked the fans up into a frenzy trying to get these top managers.
“Then it’s a bang back down to earth saying: ‘Right, we’re going to get Nuno or whoever.’
“You have to win the fans over and that’s probably by playing the Spurs way.
“Attacking football, getting the best out the boys who are there, the likes of Dele Alli and that.
“You’re going have to win the Tottenham crowd over from day one.
“After Jose Mourinho and the very defensive displays, they’re going to want to see attacking football.
“I think that’s just part of the remit for the new Tottenham manager.”
Nuno has been out of work since leaving Wolves at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
He has also garnered interest from Everton and Crystal Palace during the off-season.
