Hutton ‘wowed’ by Man City star Julian Alvarez after ‘watching some clips’
Alan Hutton has insisted Julian Alvarez will be a “real threat” for Man City next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa striker said Alvarez will struggle to break into the first team, especially since the arrival of Erling Haaland.
As quoted by Manchester Evening News (18 July), Riyad Mahrez claimed the Light Blues will need to give Alvarez, 22, time to settle in to the team.
The Argentina international joined City in January but linked up with Pep Guardiola’s side this summer.
The forward put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the Manchester club.
When asked for his assessment of the latest, Hutton told Football Insider: “I’ve seen some of his clips from pre-season, some of his goals and wow.
“He looks a real threat. Again another nightmare for defenders.
“It’s always going to be difficult. Jack Grealish signed for £100million and for last season, you wouldn’t say that he was regular. He probably will be more regular this season so it’s difficult to break in there.
“The only thing he can do is work as hard as he looks like he is and try and catch the manager’s eye. The problem is Haaland is there, for me he starts. He starts all the games in my opinion. I know Pep likes to tinker but I don’t think he’s someone who has come to sit on the bench.

“Alvarez, with the money he’s come in for, he can take his time, he can develop him. He’s at a big club, you can use him when you need him.
“So in the future, yes possibly a starter but at this moment in time I think it’s going to be really difficult to break in.“
