Celtic first teamer confirms he wants new deal after winning title
Celtic goal hero Odsonne Edouard has revealed that he would like a new deal to extend his stay with the Hoops beyond the end of the season – but he admits that the decision isn’t up to him.
The 20-year-old loan signing from PSG destroyed Rangers with two goals in the Hoops 5-0 title party, and was deservedly named man of the match.
But with Edouard’s transfer fee rumoured to be around £7million, the player does yet know where his future lies.
“I love this club, I really love this club. If the decision was up to me I’d like to stay” he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“But I can only do so much. What’s most important is that we’ve won the title today.
“The season’s not over yet, though, because we still have the Scottish Cup. Hopefully after that there will be time for discussing options.”
The Frenchman has scored 11 goals this season in Celtic’s first team, but has saved his best performances for against Rangers, who has he now scored three times against this term.
Football Insider verdict
Whilst Edouard may be unsure where his future lies, Hoops fans will be demanding that the player gets signed on a permanent deal by the Scottish champions. Edouard showed great maturity with his finishing against the Gers, and he looks like a natural replacement for Moussa Dembele, should the Frenchman leave the club in the summer. Even though the Hoops would have to pay big money for Edouard, they can afford it, particularly if players leave in the summer, and the Hoops board and Brendan Rodgers should move quickly to get the deal done before other clubs begin to show their interest in the player.
