‘I can’t watch him ever again’ – Leeds fans slaughter 28-yr-old after defeat to Tottenham

Leeds fans were unanimous in their disdain at the performance of one of their big-name players in the 2-1 loss against Tottenham.

The Whites were expected to lose against their high-flying Premier League rivals, but Daniel Farke‘s side put up a strong fight on Saturday, 4 October.

Spurs took the lead through a deflected Mathys Tel shot in the 23rd minute, before summer signing Noah Okafor equalised in the 34th minute.

Tottenham scored through Mohammed Kudus just before the hour mark, but it was Leeds who dominated much of the second half and should have found the back of the net, had it not been for a woeful performance from one of their attacking players.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin once again struggles for Leeds

Dominic Calvert-Lewin joined Leeds on a free transfer this summer after his Everton contract expired.

And whilst the England international is known for his strong aerial presence and clinical finishing, the 28-year-old endured a miserable game against Tottenham.

Leeds had 2.03 xG compared to Spurs’ 0.53, but Calvert-Lewin failed to capitalise on any of the chances set up by his teammates, much to the Whites’ supporters’ frustration.

One Leeds fan gave their thoughts by saying: “I wonder if our xG goes down when DCL [Calvert-Lewin] takes a shot.”

Another added: “Leeds will continue to struggle if they don’t change their style of play. This rush rush style is why they are trailing at home to Spurs and you see that useless Calvert Lewin? He is still as useless as he has always been.”

Leeds must prioritise striker signing in January

Leeds’ transfer business went a little under the radar in a busy summer that saw many of the division’s biggest clubs spend lavishly.

The Whites deserve credit for the majority of their signings, with Sean Longstaff and Okafor looking like very shrewd purchases.

However, one area that needs revisiting in January is the striker position. Joel Piroe, Felix Nmecha, and Calvert-Lewin have managed just two goals between them this season, with one of those coming in a Carabao Cup win over Wolves.

Leeds missed out on signing Harry Wilson in the summer, and whilst the Welshman is not a natural striker, it is clear that Farke wants to see his frontline strengthened, and that should be the priority in the coming transfer window.
