‘I don’t care what anyone says’ – Kris Boyd takes swipe at Rangers and Celtic goalscorers
Kilmarnock forward Kris Boyd has taken a swipe at Rangers and Celtic goalscorers for failing to find the net more than he has in the Scottish Premiership this season.
Boyd, 34, has been in great form for Killie this term, scoring 14 times in 25 league appearances.
The former Rangers forward has hit the back of the net more often than anyone else in Scotland’s top-flight with Alfredo Morelos (13), Josh Windass (12) and Scott Sinclair (nine) trailing behind him.
The Killie captain has fired three goals in his last three outings and will no doubt be looking to make it a fourth game in-a-row on Saturday when Steve Clarke’s men face the Light Blues at Ibrox.
Ahead of the game, Boyd has not shied away from talking up his goalscoring prowess in comparison to what has been achieved by Rangers and Celtic’s attacking players.
“I don’t care what anyone says. It should always be a Rangers or Celtic striker who rattles in more goals than anybody,” said Boyd on the Scottish Sun website.
“For me, you should be hitting the net between 25 and 30 times a season when you play for one of the big two clubs in the country.
“That’s how I looked at it when I was at Ibrox as a player.
“Anything less than that kind of tally simply isn’t good enough in my book.”
Football Insider verdict
Boyd has a point. Historically, the top golden boot winner is usually always a Rangers or Celtic player but the way that top teams attack nowadays is no longer like it used to be. Brendan Rodgers’ history-making side rely on a lot of players to get the goals while they have not have a consistent spearhead in attack with Moussa Dembele, Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard all being rotated. At Ibrox, Morelos has been a mainstay up front, but he has been aided by the form of Windass and he is not the penalty taker with James Tavernier proving himself lethal from the spot. Boyd is reading into this a bit too much and should just enjoy his own success rather than taking a swipe at the Old Firm clubs.
In other Rangers news, Mark Allen’s Ibrox masterclass would continue if he signed this midfielder who humiliated Scott Brown.
