I don’t think so’: Keith Wyness’s brutal verdict on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Man Utd ‘grand strategy’
Sir Jim Ratcliffe can not take any praise for Manchester United’s upturn in form and the appointment of Michael Carrick.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Ratcliffe claimed he had taken “tough decisions” for the greater good of Man United.
The claim was made during Ratcliffe’s controversial interview with Sky News where he said the “UK has been colonised by immigrants.”
The FA wrote to Ratcliffe over the comments, issuing the Man United co-owner with a reminder of his responsibilities when speaking in public.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Ratcliffe has got “lucky” with the appointment of Carrick.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness also states that the FA should not have got involved in Ratcliffe’s latest controversy.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’ve got to mention again that Ratcliffe did link in Man United in his statement and he said that we should have politicians not afraid to take tough actions, and then he was saying like what he has done at Man United and how things are going well now.
“I’ve got to say it was not designed by strategy that Michael Carrick is doing well. This is because of events that have happened, and they’ve got lucky with Carrick. They can’t try and tell me that it was part of their grand strategy to put [Ruben] Amorim in or hang on to [Erik] ten Hag first, then put Amorim in and then fire him to put in Carrick.
“Was that some grand strategy? I don’t think so. But anyway, look, as I say, I defend his freedom of speech. I think the FA and their kangaroo courts should sit down a bit and be quiet and just focus on some other issues that are going on in the game.”
