'I forgot about it' – Rangers star brushes off row with supporters

Rangers star Josh Windass has brushed off the row over his goal celebration against Partick Thistle where he shushed Gers fans – and insisted he “forgot about it” immediately after it happened.
Fans were furious over the 24-year-old choice of celebration after opening the scoring in the 2-0 win over Alan Archibald’s side but insists it was about his own frustrations with his performance.
Windass has come in from criticism from fans and manager Graeme Murty over his recent performances despite scoring regularly.
The former Accrington star also revealed the gesture was “nothing to do” with abuse on social media but admits he acted in the “wrong way.”
“I’ve seen reports saying on social media I was getting abuse but it was nothing to do with that it was just how I was playing in the game until that point I was feeling a bit frustrated and I’ve just reacted in maybe the wrong way but that happens some times in football,” Windass said, as quoted by the Evening Times.
“I forgot about it straight away so it’s just other people bringing it up to me so I’ll just let them talk about it and I’ll concentrate on myself.”
Windass has scored 10 times in 29 appearances for the Gers this season after a disappointing debut season in Scotland after his move north.
Windass will be hoping to continue his recent goalscoring form when the Gers travel to face League One high-flyers Ayr United in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup on Sunday at Somerset Park.
The 24-year-old hit his first professional hat-trick in the previous round as the Gers eased by Highland League minnows Fraserburgh 3-0.
Windasss has four goals in his last three games for Murty’s side and has scored all but one of his goals this season since the Gers boss replaced Pedro Caixinha in October.
