'I would give anything' - James McClean makes huge Celtic admission

West Brom and Republic of Ireland winger James McClean has admitted that he would do whatever it takes to play for Celtic at some point in his career.

Derry-born McClean, 28, is an extremely popular character among the Parkhead faithful for his clear support of the Hoops and the alignment of his political and religious beliefs.

Celtic fans have time and time again urged the club to go out and lure McClean away from the Hawthorns, but it now seems that is something that the West Brom flyer has confessed that he would love to do after he witnessed the 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League in 2012.

“It was beyond words really, although I missed the second goal. I was trying to get back down to Sunderland for training next morning and soon as I left the ground, I heard the place erupt,” he said to magazine the Celtic View, as shown by Celtic head of marketing Kerry Keenan on her personal Twitter account on Wednesday.

McClean added: “I remember saying to my wife, while I have always wanted to play for Celtic, I wanted to do it even more so that night.

“I’m a Premier League footballer and leaving the ground that night, I was thinking I would give anything to play for Celtic.”

Celtic fans may be in luck if they want to see McClean play for their side in the near future as the Telegraph has recently reported that West Brom are contemplating selling the Ireland international.

It is understood that Burnley had an £8million rejected for the left-winger in the summer but the Baggies could see if the Clarets would still be interested in January after he emerged as a fringe player as the season progressed.

McClean has made 16 appearances across all competitions for Albion this season but has managed to start just three times in the Premier League.

On Wednesday night, Alan Pardew elected to start the former Sunderland ace for the first time in the Premier League since August.

In other Celtic news, this prolific striker is on the verge of a January transfer after being on the Bhoys’ radar.
