‘I guarantee you…’ – Pundit Exclusive: Celtic star braced for big-money PL offer

It is “guaranteed” Odsonne Edouard will be eager to move to the Premier League this summer if he has a big-money offer despite Celtic talks to keep him, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds and Aberdeen forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested the club went public with their attempts to hold on to their star man to appease fans.

Neil Lennon revealed that talks had begun with the 22-year-old’s representatives over an extension to his contract which currently expires on 30 June 2022.

Edouard has been the subject of interest from a number of Premier League sides this season.

The centre-forward scored 27 goals in 45 appearances and finished the top goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership after the season was curtailed last month.

When asked by Football Insider if Lennon’s comments were a real sign of promise, Whelan said: “It would be massive.
“He is there main goalscorer and we saw when he wasn’t in the side how much they missed him.
“If they can get that done – fantastic. It would not be a bad thing to tie their top scorer down to a new deal for three to four years!
“However, is it to appease the fans? They can say they are working on a deal but if a big money offer comes in for him I guarantee you he will want to play in the Premier League. It is simple.
“If it is one of the top-six or if he has aspirations to play in the best and the hardest league
in the world – the Premier League – he will want to do that.
“It is great that they are trying to nail down a contract but the player will decide if he wants to sign that.
“Celtic will know that when the season concludes Premier League clubs will be discussing his name.”
