‘I am gutted to leave’ – new Nottingham Forest signing delivers verdict

By Matt Bullin

New Nottingham Forest signing Jason Cummings has admitted he was “gutted” to leave Hibernian, but he is “delighted” to have joined the East Midlands club.

The 21-year-old striker has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal and he arrives from Hibs for an undisclosed fee.

Forest announced the news on their official website and on their official Twitter account on Saturday morning.

Shortly after, in an interview with nottinghamforest.co.uk, he admitted he was sad to leave Hibs.

“I am absolutely delighted. It is a massive club and a great opportunity for me,” he said.

“Obviously I am gutted to leave Hibs as I enjoyed my time there but I just feel it is the right time to move on and further my career.

“I’m not coming here to just walk into the team. I have come here to learn as I will be playing with, and against, a lot better players so I am still at the learning stages and, with the gaffer here, I will only get better.”

Cummings spearheaded Hibs’ promotion charge last term, as he scored 19 goals in 31 Scottish Championship outings, and he managed to provide six assists too.

He was also a top performer for his club in Scottish Cup, bagging four goals in five games, as his side made it to the semi-finals.

The 21-year-old broke into Hibernian’s first team in January 2014, and he went on to make 149 appearances in all competitions, which yielded 71 goals and 23 assists.

Cummings has been capped eight times by Scotland Under-21s, and he has scored three goals.

Forest manager Mark Warburton is looking to bolster his squad this summer after a hugely disappointing 2016-17 campaign, which saw the club almost relegated to League One.
