'I have one chance and I score' – Newcastle star hits back at critics after Swansea draw
Newcastle United forward Joselu has given Magpies boss Rafa Benitez a selection headache over his options in attack with the Spaniard’s recent form in front of goal.
The 27-year-old only joined the north-east side in the summer for a £5million fee from Deportivo la Coruna and came off the bench on Saturday to score his side’s equaliser on Saturday at St James’ Park after Swansea had taken the lead through a Jordan Ayew goal.
The forward had only been on the pitch for four minutes when he got his name on the score sheet and made his tally for the season now four goals in 21 appearances.
And it was a point that pushed the Magpies onto 23 points for the season – three clear of Stoke City in the relegation zone.
Joselu, along with Ayoze Perez, is the top scorer at St James’ Park, each with four goals apiece.
After the draw with the Swans, the Spaniard called for his teammates to continue fighting for their league status and made a point of highlighting his own goal-scoring record.
“I try to do my best every game,” the 27-year-old told NUFC TV after Saturday’s match.
“I try to help Newcastle United when I come on, that’s my job.
“I have one chance and I score.
“It’s one point and we’re happy for that but we must keep going.”
Manchester City are next in line for the Magpies and if they can get anything from the champions-elect it will be an added bonus in their bid for survival.
