Darren Bent has urged Tottenham youngster Jack Clarke to reignite his career with a loan move to Celtic.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs striker admits he is baffled by how the 19-year-old has “regressed” since the move to north London last year.
As revealed by Football Insider, Celtic have set their sights on signing the promising Spurs winger on loan this summer after missing out on his capture in January.
The Bhoys tabled an offer to take Clarke north of the border after spending the first half of the season with Leeds but he remained in the Championship with QPR instead.
Having expected big things from the young forward, Bent insists he needs to get his career back on track after a disappointing 2019/20 campaign.
Bent told Football Insider: “I don’t really know what’s happened to him – I was raving about him last year, then he got the move to Spurs.
“I couldn’t see him getting into Spurs’ team this season but I thought he’d be one of Leeds’ main men, show everyone what a good player he is and really kick on but if anything he’s regressed this season. Why? I don’t know.
“I think he needs to go somewhere, start again and start playing games because you can’t show people you’re a good player if you’re not playing. For me, I know he might not want to leave Spurs but if he can go and get the opportunity to play for one of the big boys in Scotland, I’m all for it.
“If you’re not playing games you somehow need to get yourself out there and start playing games.”
Clarke has played just eight times across all competitions this season, with five of those appearances coming with current loan side QPR.
He earned his move to Spurs after a breakthrough season at Leeds last year, although he is yet to play for the Lilywhites.
