‘I would expect it to go through’ – Man City backed to agree Marc Guehi swap deal
Nathan Ake could be heading to Crystal Palace amid Man City’s attempts to sign Marc Guehi.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who thinks a swap deal “would make sense.”
Man City are pushing to sign Guehi, after Pep Guardiola was dealt a double blow with injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol.
Ake was expected to leave Man City in January, but injuries have meant the 30-year-old remains at the Etihad, and is unlikely to depart unless a replacement is signed.
Crystal Palace could secure ‘great move’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Crystal Palace may be open to signing Ake if they were to lose Guehi.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the move “would suit both clubs.”
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Really, that’s the one that makes all the sense in the world.
“Well, Ake isn’t quite as good, you could say, as Guehi. Certainly, Ake plus money for Palace would be, I think, a great move because it gives them that coverage for the end of the season. And I like Ake. I’ve always quite liked him. And I think he’s a talent. He’s still got a few good seasons left in him.
“And I think that would make sense. And I think it would give Palace cash plus player. Because if they had to go out and replace Guehi, they’d probably be spending all the money they’re going to get for Guehi.
“So I think that would suit both clubs very well, and I would expect that one to come through. Then again, common sense doesn’t always work in football. We’ve seen that in deals break down for all sorts of reasons, but it’s the one that makes the most sense at the moment and I would expect it to go through.”

Man City target Brentford star
Guehi may not be the only defender moving to Guardiola’s side in January, with a new right-back also being targeted.
Man City could make a move for Michael Kayode, with the 21-year-old Brentford defender proving a key player for Keith Andrews this season.
Kayode joined Brentford permanently last summer following a successful loan spell from Italian club Fiorentina.
