Ian Wright delivers Twitter verdict on future of Arsenal 28-year-old

By Danny Wright

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has said that he cannot blame Lucas Perez for wanting to leave the club due to a lack of game time.

The 28-year-old’s agent admitted on Monday that Perez  wants to leave the Emirates because he isn’t getting enough first-team football under Arsene Wenger.

Wright admitted on his personal Twitter page that he wasn’t surprised when he heard the news and added that the player hasn’t been given a fair go at Arsenal.

The Gunners signed Perez for £17million from Deportivo in the summer but he has only made 18 appearances in all competitions since, with nine of them coming off the bench.

He has only made two starts in the Premier League all season.

“If there is any truth that Perez wants to leave, can anyone be surprised? He hasn’t been given a chance,” Wright said on Twitter.

Perez scored on Monday night in the FA Cup against Sutton to take his tally to eight across all competitions – a good return given his game time.

By contrast, Alex Iwobi has made 33 appearances in all competitions, with a return of just four goals.

Perez has been utilised across a number of different positions by Wenger too.

He scored 17 goals in 36 La Liga games last season for Deportivo where he played predominantly as a striker. However this season Perez has seen himself playing on either wing or behind another striker, which has likely added to the player’s frustration.
