Ianis Hagi, Danilo react to Nico Raskin’s ‘hurt’ message amid Rangers exit rumours

Nico Raskin sent supporters a message as rumours continue circulating over the midfielder’s future at Rangers.

The Belgian was a standout as Barry Ferguson‘s side crashed out of the Europa League against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, 17 April, after goals from Oihan Sancet and Nico Williams.

A challenge inside the penalty area on Cyriel Dessers should have seen Rangers awarded a penalty, but with VAR refusing to advise a monitor review, the Light Blues were left furious with the officiating in Spain.

With Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic set to lift the Scottish Premiership title, there is little left to play for, but some players might be trying to impress ahead of an Ibrox exit this summer.

Football Insider understands that Leeds United are well placed to sign Raskin, who has shot to fame in recent weeks after earning his international debut with Belgium.

Nico Raskin proud after Rangers lose to Athletic Bilbao

Taking to Instagram (19 April), Raskin wrote: “Nothing but proud of this group and our Europa League campaign. It hurts to fall short of the dream, but we gave it our all, and we will be back.

“To all the fans who had our backs every step of the way: your support was incredible a very much appreciated,” with two blue love heart emojis.

The post gained likes from teammates Ianis Hagi, Danilo, Robin Propper and Dujon Sterling, and Leeds United star Largie Ramazani.

Barry Ferguson’s future at Rangers could already be set

Football Insider verdict

Many supporters were ready for Ferguson to be made Rangers manager on a permanent basis this summer, but that may no longer happen after his side dropped out of the Europa League.

With 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh hoping to complete a takeover, the new owners might be ready for a shakeup at Ibrox, especially with the team falling 15 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Premiership.

Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez have both been linked with Rangers ahead of the summer, but it remains to be seen who could take on the challenge of taking the Gers back to their former glory.

The beginning of the new era is already there, proven by the team’s run to the Europa League quarter-finals, but any manager might struggle if multiple big-name stars leave at the end of the season.

Jack Butland, Jefte and Hamza Igamane have all been tipped for exits, with Vaclav Cerny and Rafael Fernandes’ loans expiring, leaving a skeleton of the current squad for the 2025/26 campaign.
