Ianis Hagi facing extended spell on sidelines after ‘huge’ Rangers claim – Hutton

Alan Hutton has claimed Ianis Hagi could be facing even longer out of the Rangers XI.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said the club will have to manage his minutes to ensure he does not break down again.

The 24-year-old has not featured for the Light Blues in almost a year after picking up a horror ACL injury back in January that required surgery.

The midfielder has been spotted taking part in extra training sessions during the World Cup break.

His dad, former Barcelona star Gheorghe Hagi, said his son is close to a return.

Speaking to Romanian outlet Fanatik, as quoted by the Daily Record (25 November), Gheorghe Hagi said the Romanian is in the final phase of his recovery and is doing well.

The former Real Madrid man added that Rangers is a “huge club”.

When asked if Hagi will be back in the starting lineup when the season resumes, Hutton told Football Insider: “I do not think he will go straight back in. I think it takes time.

He has been out for such a lengthy period that to just throw him back in and put the onus on him that he is going to be where he was before the injury is silly.

Rangers

His minutes are going to have to be looked at so he does not break down. I am sure it will be a steady process easing him back in.

Of course he adds something different, something the team have probably been missing on that right hand side. He will be welcomed back I am sure.
