Ibrahima Konate delivers emphatic response on following Alexander-Arnold’s lead on Liverpool exit

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate’s future remains uncertain and there are fears he could follow the same path as Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Konate is the subject of interest from Real Madrid, as the Frenchman has just one year left on his current deal at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer, and Konate could follow his lead.

Konate though remains a key figure on Merseyside after Liverpool failed in their pursuit of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace on deadline day.

Ibrahima Konate denies following Trent Alexander-Arnold route

Although Konate could follow Alexander-Arnold in joining Real Madrid, the centre-back has denied being able to speak Spanish.

Before his arrival in Spain, Alexander-Arnold admitted to having learnt Spanish for a “few months,” as per BBC Sport [12 June].

Konate though responded with “an emphatic no” when asked whether he had been learning the language, as per the Mirror [7 September].

Alexander-Arnold spoke Spanish when he was unveiled as a Real Madrid player, to the shock of many.

Liverpool still no closer to sorting Ibrahima Konate future

Football Insider Verdict

Whilst Konate has denied speaking Spanish, the French defender still has not committed himself to Liverpool beyond this season.

After missing out on Guehi, Konate is an important figure for Arne Slot alongside Virgil van Dijk amid the lack of depth in the position.

Unless a replacement is sourced in January, like revisiting a deal for Guehi, then Liverpool face losing Konate on a free transfer next summer.

Slot needs to keep the 26-year-old focused as the Reds look to claim successive Premier League titles.

Sorting out Konate’s future sooner would be beneficial for both parties, and help Slot plan whether he needs to sign Guehi in January.

There has been no movement in contract talks between Konate and the club, and losing another player on a free is a blow when the Frenchman would have commanded a hefty transfer fee.
