Brendan Rodgers makes honest admission about Celtic 2017 success
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that 2017 will go down as one of the greatest years of his career.
The Hoops boss lead his side to an unprecedented first domestic treble since 2001 and first unbeaten league season since the 1890s.
He also saw his team set a new British record of 69 domestic matches without defeat and qualify for the last 32 of the Europa League to secure European football after Christmas in the East End of Glasgow for the first time in three years.
The Northern Irishman has also admitted that he won’t be able to appreciate how huge the achievements were until many years from now.
“Whatever I do going forward I know it will be hard to beat as the most enjoyable year I’ve ever had in football”, he said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“From the first day to the last, it has been an iconic year. You create the legend in terms of how you perform but I’ll never truly appreciate it until I’m long gone.”
Rodgers saw his side end the first-half of their season in a bit of a damp squib, in the goal less draw against Rangers at Celtic Park, a game in which goalkeeper Craig Gordon was probably the Hoops’ man of the match after some excellent saves in the second-half.
The Hoops didn’t play anything like as well as they can but the manager will take heart from the fact that they still lead their oldest rivals by 11 points in the Scottish Premiership table and have a healthy eight point lead over second-placed Aberdeen.
