‘If I’m wrong, sue me’ – Pundit launches incredible attack on Rangers in late-night Twitter rant
Stan Collymore has launched an incredible attack on Rangers in a late-night Twitter rant – and claimed the Ibrox were founded to promote exclusion.
The pundit made the astonishing comments on Twitter on Friday night, claiming the Gers were the antithesis of their Glasgow rivals Celtic.
“Celtic Football Club. Founded on feeding local population. Protestant, Catholic, black? Play for us. Contribute,” Collymore said on his personal Twitter account.
“Rangers Football Club. Founded to promote an image of superiority, Empire and exclusion. A club who actively excluded 50% of its demographic. If I’m wrong, Sue me.”
Football Insider verdict:
Collymore encourages Rangers to sue him – and hopefully the Ibrox giants take the former England international up on that offer for his defamatory comments. Despite Collymore’s claims Rangers “actively excluded 50% of its demographic” the reality is that Rangers had Irish catholic players playing for them from the very start of the club’s history such as Pat Lafferty and have had prominent catholic players throughout their history. Collymore would do well to take some time to actually learn something about the history of Scottish football – he’d quickly learn Rangers fielded several catholics as they reached the semi-final of the English FA Cup in 1886/87. Collymore has a long-standing issue with Rangers after a well-publicised incident with Ally McCoist during the 1998 World Cup in France and the Ibrox giants should take the strongest possible stance towards Collymore’s woefully wrong comments and take him to the cleaners. He also just needs to ask Mark Walters, Nir Bitton or Lord Livingston of Parkhead how welcoming some Celtic fans can be.
