Ilkay Gundogan could quit Man City after source’s contract reveal – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Ilkay Gundogan could be tempted to leave Man City for a return to Germany.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back said Pep Guardiola won’t stand in the way of Gundogan if he wants to leave the Etihad.

On Monday (31 October), sources told this site that the Sky Blues are concerned the 32-year-old will snub their contract offer to leave on a free transfer.

City have been in contact with Gundogan’s camp to discuss an extension but there is no agreement currently in place.

The midfielder has entered the final year of his deal and will be free to agree a pre-contract with foreign clubs from 1 January.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur (26 October), the German international is still on Bayern Munich’s shortlist but is not a priority.

When asked if Gundogan could be tempted by a return to Germany, Hutton told Football Insider: “Probably.

I think he has been over here for a number of years now, he has had an outstanding career, won a lot of trophies. It is probably something that he would definitely think about.

I always think that if you look at Pep and what he has done with the team and how he has moved it forward, he has been quite ruthless. You think of [Raheem] Sterling, [Gabriel] Jesus, [Oleksandr] Zinchenko who were all integral parts of the team.

Man City

There is no problem if you do not see your future at the club you move on and he brings somebody else in.

He has been an outstanding servant but if he sees his future somewhere else, I think Pep will not stand in his way and he will definitely have a plan moving forward.
