Ilkay Gundogan issues ‘soon’ Man City update after Pep Guardiola exclusion
Ilkay Gundogan has sent a message to Man City fans ahead of their upcoming clash with West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.
The midfielder returned to the club in the summer after a year in Barcelona, but has struggled for form at times this season, with Pep Guardiola’s side enduring a dismal defence of their Premier League title.
That has led to a reduced involvement for Gundogan recently, with the German only used as a late substitute against Everton on Boxing Day before failing to get on the pitch at all against Leicester last time out.
However, it now appears Gudogan is determined to get back to action as soon as possible, with Man City set to host the Hammers on Saturday (4 January).
Taking to Instagram ahead of that game, the midfielder posted a picture of himself in action in training, alongside a caption that included a “back soon” emoji, and a tag of the Premier League.
Ilkay Gundogan will be desperate to get back on the pitch for Man City
Football Insider Opinion
It should be no surprise to see that Gundogan is keen to get back on the pitch for Guardiola’s side as quickly as he can.

With his contract at the Etihad due to expire at the end of this season, he may be running out of time to do that if he cannot earn a new deal and secure the stay he seemingly wants.
The best way for him to do that will be to perform to his best on the pitch, which will both help his side to turn this situation around and make it harder for them not to keep him around.
Considering the injury crisis and busy fixture list they have had to deal with this season, Gundogan may well get more chances to do just that for Man City.
It appears he’s hopeful one will come for him against West Ham at the weekend, and given they have also been below par themselves, this could be an opportunity for the German to impress.
